Allocated Wines

Volker Eisele Family Estate creates enticing wines from the Chiles Valley District of the Napa Valley. Organically farmed since 1974, the Estate produces wines of uncommon balance and finesse. Long, cool growing seasons, rigorous thinning and harvesting of mature grape clusters yields fruit of robust acidity and wines of great complexity.

2014 Las Flores, Cabernet Sauvignon

The fruit for the Las Flores, Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a section of our vineyard called the Las Flores block, named by the Nevarez family, which has been farming the land with us since 1974. The mustard that grows in the Las Flores block every spring, blooms a more brilliant yellow in this field than anywhere else within our vineyard.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested October 10, 2014 with 25.4 degrees average brix, 0.65 total acidity, and 3.60pH

Oak Aging: 22 months in 55% new French oak barrels from Treuil cooperage (i.e. Ailler and Troncais).

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

In the glass, the Las Flores Cabernet is deeply burgundy in color, with youthful red edges. The nose is explosive with aromas of blackberries, cedar, ripe red currants, blackberries, flint, and vanilla creme. The wine’s personality really unfolds in the mouth, with round, mouth-filling tannins intertwined with layers of flavor – creamy cassis, boysenberry, and a touch of graphite. The wine’s finish is delicately spiced with clove and nutmeg, and a touch of light oak smoke.

2014 Sievers Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon

The fruit for the Sievers Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a section of our vineyard called the Canyon Block. The seven-acre canyon was originally planted to vines in the late 1800’s by German pioneer, Francis Sievers.

Isolated from the rest of the vineyard by the extreme topography of this block, the canyon is a steep ravine following the course of one of the vineyard’s seasonal creeks. While yields are low, our neighborhood black bear finds the quality to be irresistible, and is known to sample the ripening berries.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested October 7, 2014 with 25.3 degrees average brix, 0.65 total acidity, and 3.68pH

Oak Aging: 21 months in 50% new French oak barrels from Treuil cooperage (i.e. Ailler and Troncais).

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

In the glass, the 2014 Sievers Reserve is an inky dark red, with alluring purple edges. The wine’s nose is dark and brooding, with prominent espresso, black currant, a subtle floral note of violets, and oak smoke. In the mouth, the wine is smooth but massive, with flavors of black plum, perfumed heavily toasted oak, a touch of black olive and pure dark chocolate. The smoky finish is long and redolent of sweet oak char.

…a denser ruby/purple color than the basic Cabernet Sauvignon with a gorgeous nose of blackberry and blueberry fruit with graphite and licorice. The wine is fuller-bodied, richer, impressive and long in the mouth. This is a wine that would hold up for 15-20 or more years, given its depth of fruit and overall equilibrium. This beauty can be drunk now, however, and promises to get even better.

2014 Alexander, Cabernet Sauvignon

On the slopes of Volker Eisele Family Estate, Alexander, the second generation Eisele to tend the vineyard, has developed his passion for perfection. He understands that quality begins with each individual vine. It is with a unique two-acre hillside block, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1976 that he has reached the ultimate, producing the spectacular fruit which goes into the Alexander wine. While yields are low due to precise cluster selection, the quality is extraordinarily high.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested September 13, 2014, with 24.9 degrees average brix, 0.60 total acidity, and 3.72pH

Oak Aging: 21 months in 70% new French oak; Aillier and Troncais from Treuil.

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

In the glass, the Alexander Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep burgundy, with brilliantly red edges. The nose is expressive with creamy saddle leather, rich cassis, ripe blackberries, and violets, with a touch of nutmeg and black pepper. In the mouth, the wine is round and lush, with weighty, broad tannins and flavors of creme de cassis, black cherry, and vanilla bean layered into a frame of well-integrated oak. The extremely long finish is of light sweet oak char and toasted barrel spice.
~Molly Lyman, Winemaker

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander has an opaque purple color, notes of graphite, toasty oak, rich concentrated, medium to full-bodied flavors, a long finish and a youthful character. This wine has plenty going for it … and will evolve for 15-20 years.
