Allocated Wines

Volker Eisele Family Estate creates enticing wines from the Chiles Valley District of the Napa Valley. Organically farmed since 1974, the Estate produces wines of uncommon balance and finesse. Long, cool growing seasons, rigorous thinning and harvesting of mature grape clusters yields fruit of robust acidity and wines of great complexity.

2016 V, Cabernet Sauvignon

V Cabernet Sauvignon

The V, Cabernet Sauvignon is a special collaboration born out of a desire to take high quality wine grape growing to its highest potential. The vines from our steepest terrain were heavily thinned to one cluster per shoot, dry farmed and a meticulously managed canopy ensured even ripening. The resulting tiny berries produced a powerhouse of flavors. This is a wine that truly began in the vineyard.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested September 28, 2016 with 25.5degrees average brix, 0.59 total acidity, and 3.64pH

Oak Aging: 22 months in 60% new French oak barrels from Treuil cooperage (i.e. Allier and Troncais).

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

In the glass the 2016 V Cabernet Sauvignon blooms with aromas of blackberries, bittersweet chocolate, light caramel and rich cedar. In the mouth, the wine’s broad tannins provide ample structure for flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, and a hint of graphite. The lengthy finish is perfumed with creamy vanilla bean.
  ~Molly Lippitt, Winemaker

“Attractively ripe blackberry and blueberry aromas here with a very succulent, upbeat palate that offers a strong array of rich, ripe and smoothly crafted tannins that build nicely to a long and fresh, fruit-soaked finish.
94 – James Suckling

“This rich wine is made from organically grown estate grapes. Plum, wax and mocha flavors combine around a robust midpalate of full-bodied density while the tannins remain supple and smooth. A touch of vanilla bean closes it out”.
93 – V.B., Wine Enthusiast

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon V gives blueberry pie, chocolate box and menthol on the nose with wafts of spice box and Christmas pudding. Medium-bodied, the palate is chewy with nice berry layers and good length.

2016 Las Flores, Cabernet Sauvignon

Las Flores

The fruit for the Las Flores, Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a section of our vineyard called the Las Flores block, named by the Nevarez family, which has been farming the land with us since 1974. The mustard that grows in the Las Flores block every spring, blooms a more brilliant yellow in this field than anywhere else within our vineyard.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested October 13, 2016 with 25.0 degrees average brix, 0.45 total acidity, and 3.65pH

Oak Aging: 22 months in 55% new French oak barrels from Treuil cooperage (i.e. Allier and Troncais).

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

The Las Flores, Cabernet Sauvignon was named for the dense expanse of brilliant yellow wild mustard that carpeted the block. The terrain of the Las Flores block covers the slope of the Volker Eisele Family Estate where the hillside joins the valley floor – the wine that this block grows embodies this unique juxtaposition – not hillside, not valley floor – perched somewhere in between.

“The wine is a deep, brooding dark red in the glass. The nose is an enticing juxtaposition of delicate floral aromas and earthy graphite, with hints of black currant, black cherry, and pipe tobacco. In the mouth the aromas the wine is finely textured and dense, with layers of dark chocolate covered blackberries, toasted almonds, and a lingering finish of vanilla and nutmeg.”
  ~Molly Lippett, Winemaker

“Reductive at first, this bold, concentrated estate-grown wine opens slowly, unfurling layers of dense black- berry and black-cherry flavors. Iron, crushed rock and powerful tannins add to the complexity, with a dash of nutmeg at the end”.

2016 Alexander, Cabernet Sauvignon

Volker Eisele Family Estate Alexander CabernetOn the slopes of Volker Eisele Family Estate, Alexander, the second generation Eisele to tend the vineyard, has developed his passion for perfection. He understands that quality begins with each individual vine. It is with a unique two-acre hillside block, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1976 that he has reached the ultimate, producing the spectacular fruit which goes into the Alexander wine. While yields are low due to precise cluster selection, the quality is extraordinarily high.

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Harvest: The grapes were harvested September 19, 2016, with 24.2 degrees average brix, 0.53 total acidity, and 3.67pH

Oak Aging: 22 months in 70% new French oak; Allier and Troncais from Treuil.

Organic: All fruit is organically grown in our estate vineyard.

“The 2016 Alexander glows a deep rich burgundy red in the glass, with youthful pink undertones. The nose is bright and volatile with notes of classic cassis, cranberry, blueberry, and subtle note of pipe tobacco. In the mouth, the wine volunteers generous dark and brooding flavors of espresso, blackberry, star anise, and a hint of forest floor. The oak framing is supportive of the wine’s expressive flavor and lends cinnamon and clove to the lengthy finish. This distinctive vineyard block creates an iconic wine year after year.”
~Molly Lippitt, Winemaker

“The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander offers up crème de cassis, baked plums and blueberry compote with dark chocolate, tilled soil, tea and tobacco on the nose. Medium to full bodied, firm and chewy, it has a core of restrained fruit and an earthy finish.”
